Research in the field of bioenergy; Structuring of biomass flow schemes, biomass potential studies (incl. biomass residues and evaluating the competition between material and energy use); biomass cascading use; conception and realisation of Renewable Energy Systems and Energy Efficiency masterplans; Stakeholders analysis on sustainable use of biomass; Long term cooperation with public bodies, e.g. EU commission concerning EU projects; federal ministries in Germany ; Coordination of R&D projects and collaboration with European Research Institutes; In charge of training, seminars in sustainable forestry use.

Project leader of several EU projects. Clients / funding institutions: EU (e.g. Interreg V B, NWE, Interreg V A, H2020); ministries of federal states of Germany; energy suppliers; municipalities; companies. Research issues: demands and possibilities for endogenous organic ressources in rural areas worldwide. methods: biomass potential studies; economical cluster analysis; cost-benefit analysis; LCA; Governance and policy analysis; GIS analysis, e.g. heat maps.
