Miaoying Shi, graduated in Michigan State University (MSU), currently is a Postdoc in MSU. Her research interests are broadly related to exploring and examining the linkages between environmental processes and socioeconomic changes. A central theme in her research is to integrate information (spatial & temporal) from various disparate sources (like spatial and non-spatial data from remote sensing, GIS, and statistical sources, etc) to improve understanding and prediction of the changing ecosystems and social processes. The topic she will address is related to land use and land cover change detection and driving force analysis, with specific focus on investigating the interactions between forest and other land use categories and the underlying socioeconomic causes.
Forest land issue is complex and no longer solely the problem of the forestry sector. Political, social, cultural, economic, environmental, etc., various aspects are embodied. In order to rigorously reflect the land dynamics and causes, it comes natural that more diverse tools and modeling strategies are called for. However, under the situation of insufficient number of sample sizes, what kinds of modeling frameworks will you choose?
