Course Notice: “Method of Academic Paper Writing” by Dr. Eshetu Yirsaw

Instructor: Dr. Eshetu Yirsaw, Dilla University, Ethiopia

Dr. Eshetu is currently an associate professor at Dilla University, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Ethiopia. He is a visiting research scholar at Hunan University of Technology and Business, China, and also at Adama Science and Technology University and Hawassa University, Ethiopia. He has been providing teaching, research, and administrative services at Dilla University and Hawassa University, as well as consulting services to various NGOs, government agencies, and private organizations such as MoE, MoA, ERVLR, Green Professionals Service, etc. Dr. Eshetu’s areas of consulting service include environmental impacts assessment (EIA), rural livelihoods, climate variability vs. food insecurity, agricultural transformation vs. poverty reduction, and etc. He has published over twenty publications in peer-reviewed international journals, and also is a reviewer of various peer-reviewed international journals.

Course Name: Method of Academic Paper Writing

Course Credit: Two credit

Course Introduction: Being to meet the goal of publishing high-quality papers in internationally renowned journals demanded by most postgraduates especially for PhD students, it is necessary to offer such a course to systemically introducing methods and skills in academic paper writing. This course contains four parts: Introduction, How to write the different components of academic paper, tipis for submission and publication, and ethics in academic paper writing. The introduction part deal with what academic paper is? Components of a typical academic paper, and features of academic paper. The second section concerned with how to write the main components of academic paper (abstract, introduction, research method, result, discussion, and conclusion), references, and related details. Tips for submission and publication mainly deal with journal selection for research article submission, article submission process and follow up, and simple rules for concise academic paper writing. The fourth part considers the various ethics to be followed while writing academic paper. Finally, during the course delivery, students will practice what they have already learnt using review paper writing.
